Interdisziplinäres Projekt // Interdisciplinary Project: Hotel Wilhelmsburg

Die UdN realisiert 2013 ein Langzeit–Communityprojekt und erweitert damit noch einmal ihr programmatisches Setting: Im IBA-Präsentationsjahr wird die universitäre Nutzung überlagert mit einem Hotelbetrieb, der mit seinem Angebot nicht nur den Besuchern der Bauausstellung offen steht, sondern auch der Nachbarschaft einen Raum des Verweilens und des Austauschs bereitstellt. Im Maßstab 1:1 und im Rahmen eines Low-Budget Projektes in allen Leistungsphasen wird es um die Planung einer temporären Struktur als räumliche wie funktionale Erweiterung der UdN gehen. Zudem konzentrieren wir uns auf die Entwicklung des Hotelbetriebs aus lokalen Mikro-Ökonomien heraus. Es gilt die Akteure der lokalen und überwiegend migrantisch geprägten Geschäftskulturen zu identifizieren und als Partner zu gewinnen. In kleinem Maßstab entstehen so neue Verknüpfungen lokaler Ökonomien auf der einen Seite – Kommunikationszentrum, Kunstprojekt und Herberge für die IBA auf der anderen Seite. Als UdN Planungsbüro begleiten die Teilnehmer des Projektes die Pension in allen Phasen ihres Entstehungsprozesses – der programmatischen wie der baulichen – von der konzeptionellen Entwicklung bis hin zu deren Realisierung.

Throughout 2013 the UdN is realizing a long-term community project, in which it is further extending its programmatic setting. During the presentation year of the International Building Exhibition (IBA) the UdN will merge it’s academic approaches with that of hotel operations, not only geared towards meeting the needs of exhibition visitors, but also fostering a space of exchange and hang-out for the surrounding neighborhood.  In a 1:1 scale and within the premise of a low budget project throughout all work phases, it becomes about planning a temporary structure as a spatial and functional extension of the UdN. Furthermore, we focus on developing hotel operations out of existing local micro economies, from the surrounding neighborhood.The aim is to identify local actors in the culturally diverse business environment, and to win them over as partners. On a small scale, this will develop new links between local economies, and on the other hand function as a communication center, art project and lodging for the IBA. Considering ourselves as the UdN planning office, project participants will accompany the development of the hotel in all phases of its evolutionary process – programming and building – from the conceptual development to its realization.
